We have never lived closer together, yet many of us have never felt more disconnected.
The final presenter for Demos, Demos, Demos!!! is.....(drum rolls).....
Sahar Niroomandbeihaghi, founder of BuurUnion.
Sahar has always been drawn to people. Being part of a group, helping others, sharing experiences, and creating meaningful connections have always been at the heart of who she is. When she moved to the Netherlands, she found herself living in a modern apartment building surrounded by neighbours, yet barely knowing any of them.
The contrast was striking. How could so many people live side by side and still feel disconnected?
Instead of accepting this as the new normal, Sahar decided to do something about it.
That is how BuurUnion was born.

Inspired by the mathematical symbol βͺ, representing separate parts coming together to form a whole, BuurUnion helps residents connect through shared skills, shared resources, shared meals, and everyday acts of neighbourly support. In doing so, it strengthens community while reducing waste and making better use of the resources that already exist around us.
What I love about Sahar's journey is that BuurUnion is more than a business idea. It is a reflection of her values: sharing, caring and sustainability. A simple idea with the potential to create impact far beyond a single building.
Join us on Friday 3 July as Sahar shares her vision and demonstrates how BuurUnion is helping turn neighbours into changemakers.
